Pianist/composer Emir GAMSIZOGLU is a unique type of virtuoso who started to play the piano at the age of 20, after quitting his career as a pro basketball player in Turkey. Because of his interesting background, he has been the creator of many “out of the box” classical music projects, and CHATTY PIANIST is certainly one of them.
Chatty Pianist features a theme to be discussed and presented during GAMSIZOGLU’s live performance of a solo piano recital. This way the “Chatty Pianist” chats with his audience while he’s playing the piano! “I’m chatty” says GAMSIZOGLU “And I love talking about composers and stories around music.” While GAMSIZOGLU’s Sunday concert series in West Village’s Caffe Vivaldi continues, CHATTY PIANIST will present six concept concerts this year in Greenwich House Music’s Renee Weiler Concert Hall. Next one is on November 15, 4pm with the theme: VIRTUOSO.
The program will feature virtuoso pieces from composers like Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Liszt, Frederic Chopin, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Ludwig van Beethoven, Camille Saint-Saens, Felix Mendelssohn as well as Gamsızoğlu’s own composition “Heybeli Variations”. While performing this demanding and exciting program Chatty Pianist will chat about what does virtuosity mean in classical music while sharing stories from composers’ lives. Tickets are $20, can be purchased online or at the door.
