Last night the family headed to Aviator Arena in Brooklyn to watch the NY Riveters vs CT Whale hockey game. Our children’s own hockey game schedules are so busy that we don’t usually have time to catch the Sunday night game, but the holiday’s gave us a reprieve from the regular rigor of practice and game. It proved to be the perfect transition from the slower paced holiday-break lifestyle back into our regular pace of life.
Sunday night’s Riveter’s event was Star Wars Night. Fans in costume received a discounted entrance. The 2nd intermission featured a music-accompanied on-ice lightsaber battle and costume contest that featured an X-Wing pilot, stormtrooper and Chewbacca. Do I need to tell you who won?!
The Connecticut Whales dominated the game, but it was none-the-less a great game to watch. The teams were passionate and skated hard. In the third period, Riveters forward Madison Packer was hit and helped off the ice – a tense 10 minutes. Moments after that, the Riveters goalie was hit – a no no at any level of hockey. The ensuing brawl was a bit of a surprise but showed the intensity at which these athletes play.
We’re looking forward to attending another NY Riveters game this winter.
