Just as the city is about to burst out in bloom, its time to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day. Earth Day is on April 22 and National Arbor Day is April 29 but there are events spreading across the next two weeks that bring our attention to our beautiful planet and how we can be a little nicer to her. Check these out:
NYC Green Festival

Earth Day Initiative in Union Square
From live music to interactive displays to kid-friendly activities, this annual event put on by Earth Day Initiative is a favorite among green-thinking New Yorkers of all ages.

Volunteer at Fort Tryon Park

Give your time and help make Fort Tryon Park a little bit greener by volunteering with the Friends Committee of the Fort Tryon Park Trust and NYC Parks. Come in long pants and boots and sneakers and install plants on the Fort Washington terrace slope. Plants, tools and gloves will be provided.

Earth Day 5K Green Tour
Staggered start times between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm
This is a 5K with a twist as we raise money for our year-round environmental education programs and participate in a walking tour of great sites in the city, such as the Lowline (the world’s first underground park), the eco-friendly 1 Hotel Central Park, and a natural food cooking school, as well as a sneak peak of a new nature documentary. It’s a great activity for friends, family, a corporate volunteer team, or school group. Lunch will be provided by the Natural Gourmet Institute!
