It’s the first snowfall of the season in New York City so although the city wanted all non-essential drivers off the streets by 2:30pm, that didn’t stop its other citizenry from playing in the snowdrifts or heading to the hills to toboggan in the park.
You know summer has come to NYC when you can head to Riverside Park and start kayaking again.
Time: 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Location:West Harlem Piers (125th Street and 12th Avenue)
The third annual West Side YMCA’s Fit for All 5K run will be held this Saturday, October 5 in Riverside Park.
Race registration opens at 8:00am with a 9:00am start for adult runners and walkers. The Kid’s Zone opens at 8:00am and has lots of fun activities including a fun run, face painting, give aways from Nickelodeon & Nike, Kids Zumba, and Kids Yoga. Kids races start at 10:00am.
The run is designed to address the growing epidemic of childhood obesity. Despite recent progress, obesity statistics among NYC’s youth are startling. Among NYC children ages 6-11 years, 21.3 percent are obese versus 19.6 percent nationally. Even more are overweight and on a path to obesity once they are adults. The obesity epidemic, if left unchecked, threatens to reverse the enormous progress made in health and life expectancy in recent decades.
