West Side Community Garden’s Arts & Crafts Festival, Sept. 13-14

West Side Community Garden is hosting a weekend arts festival that includes
poetry readings, a performance by the New York String Orchestra, and artwork
and crafts for sale by local westside artists.

DATES:  September 13th and 14th . 
TIMES:  10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  
LOCATION: West 89th Street, between Amsterdam and Columbus
Avenues.
Paintings, photographs, jewelry,
ceramics, quilting and limited edition clothing and more will be sold by the
garden’s West 89th Street entrance (between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues).
On Saturday, September 13th, you can enjoy a free crafts workshop for children (all materials provided) from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m, in a garden setting.. Entertainment starts at 1:00 p.m. and at 3:00 p.m.  when Iluminada & Guillermo will play Spanish guitar and lead a folk music singalong for children and adults (in English and Spanish).
On Sunday, September 14th, the New York String Orchestra, conducted
by Stephen Josephs, will present a concert on the garden green from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. From 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. local poets Howard Pflanzer and Rosalie
Calabrese will be featured in readings.  Students from NYU’s Creative
Writing programs will join them, with a book signing and reception to follow.

The WSCG Arts & Crafts festival is funded in
part by The Lily Auchencloss Foundation and is an annual event of the West SideCommunity Garden, open year-round from dawn to dusk.

Arts & Crafts Festival on Upper West Side, September 21-22

Childrens’ activities, live music, romance novel and poetry readings highlight the West Side Community Garden‘s Annual Arts & Crafts Festival, Saturday and Sunday, September 21-22, 2013 at the Garden, located on West 89th Street between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues. 
The event is free.
Artwork and crafts created by local westside artists will be for sale from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days by the garden’s 89th Street entrance. Paintings, photographs, jewelry, ceramics, quilting and limited edition clothing and more. 
Saturday, Sept. 21, family-friendly events include a free crafts workshop for children (all materials provided) from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.,a magic show at 1.p.m., and folk music singalong at 3p.m.  
On Sunday, Sept. 22, the New York String Orchestra conducted by Stephen Josephs, will present a concert on the garden green from noon until 1p.m.

From 2-4 p.m. local poets Howard Pflanzer and Rosalie Calabrese will “bookend” live readings of romance novels by members of the Romance Writers of America New York Chapter.  A booksigning and reception will follow.  

West Side Community Garden Presents the First Movie in the Garden Screening of The Artist

The West Side Community Garden is proud to present the first Movie in the Garden with a special screening of the 2011 Silent Film The Artist on August 23, 2013 at 8:00pm

The Artist (2011) (100 minutes)

The Artist is a 2011 French romanticcomedy-drama film in the style of a black-and-white silent film. The film was written and directed by Michel Hazanavicius and stars Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo.The story takes place in Hollywood, between 1927 and 1932, and focuses on the relationship of an older silent film star and a rising young actress as silent cinema falls out of fashion and is replaced by the “talkies .” It won the Academy Award  for Best Film, Best Actor, and Best Director in 2012. 

The movie will be held at the West Side Community Garden at 123 W 89th St New York, NY 10024 (Between Amsterdam and Broadway) and admission is free. For more information go to www.westsidecommunitygarden.org.

Located on West 89th between Columbus and Amsterdam, the
West Side Community Garden is owned and maintained by the West Side Community Garden
Inc., an all-volunteer not-for-profit organization. The current design for the
garden was developed by the Gardeners working with Artists and the current layout,
incorporating a floral amphitheater and public seating area, was part of the
Gardener’s vision from the very beginning, lending itself to event
presentations such as the concert series.
